Grupo Edson Queiroz reports EBITDA of R$ 1.2 billion in 2023

Indicator advanced by 25%, a result of the growth of all the Group’s business units

São Paulo, April 2024 – Grupo Edson Queiroz (GEQ) presented R$1.2 billion in EBITDA in 2023, a significant increase of 25% compared to 2022. This result is due to effective management and successful market strategies across all the Group’s operations. The gross revenue of the multi-sector holding company, which owns the companies Nacional Gás, Esmaltec, Minalba Brasil, and Sistema Verdes Mares (SVM), was R$12.2 billion.

All companies performed positively and were cash generators, keeping the Group net debt-free. GEQ has also invested in structuring areas such as logistics, information technology, human resources, and important partnerships, aiming to sustain its continuous growth.

“GEQ has undergone several changes in recent years, always seeking to achieve efficiency gains in operations and improve its internal processes. We understand that evolution starts from within, which is why we have also paid special attention to topics involving people, corporate culture, and innovation,” says Carlos Rotella, CEO of GEQ.

Inside the business

Despite the reduction in LPG prices at refineries, the operation of Nacional Gás remained stable. This solidity is due to investments in operational optimization and digital innovation to improve the experience of resellers. For 2024, the company plans to expand and strengthen its operations in the business segment.

Minalba Brasil, a leader in its market segment, made investments in its factories in Campos do Jordão and Águas de Santa Bárbara, São Paulo; launched inclusive cans, such as the first can with inscriptions in Braille, and its first social product in partnership with the NGO Gerando Falcões. It also expanded its exclusive portfolio of imported brands with new packaging for Perrier, S. Pellegrino, and Acqua Panna, and increased its brand activations with its first national promotion and first Road Race. In 2024, Minalba Brasil continues its logistics structuring journey, positioning itself as a brand manager. In addition, it aims to expand its strategic partnerships with major players to further increase its national reach.

For the white goods and retail sectors, 2023 was a challenging year, especially in the first half.

Despite this scenario, Esmaltec maintained its stable result, demonstrating responsible and sustainable financial management. For 2024, the company plans investments in its factory in Maracanaú, Ceará, and the launch of new products, especially with high energy efficiency.

SVM stood out in content production, developing episodes and programs for national broadcasting for the Globo network, with which it is affiliated in Ceará. It also invested in technology and digitization, in addition to converting Rádio Verdes Mares, Verdinha, the audience leader in Ceará, to the FM system. Another highlight was the recognition through highly relevant awards that gave visibility to projects focused on the environment and society, such as Mares ao Mar, Projeto Elas, and Terra de Sabidos. In 2024, the company plans to launch new products aiming at digital monetization.

New investments and projects

The achieved results were also driven by diversified investments in human resources, supply chain, and information technology.

For the Group, human capital has always been a priority. In 2023, there were investments in implementing a solid cultural evolution program, which included hiring the consultancy Walking the Talk, a reference in this area.

Some notable actions were strengthening the leadership team by hiring executives from various regions of the country; consolidating the trainee program that offers opportunities to young people from all over Brazil, with more than 5,000 applicants; and investments in expanding benefits focused on the physical and mental health of employees.

“This type of investment not only demonstrates concern for employee well-being but can also positively impact productivity and talent retention,” comments the executive.

In the supply chain, the adoption of the Logistics Control Tower has proven to be an effective strategy to boost productivity and operational efficiency; the implementation of a new ERP-SAP system across the holding company should lead the transformation of processes through technology and create a data-driven culture to streamline decision-making.

Permeating all these evolutions of the company was the rebranding carried out in 2023. The new brand reflects a new positioning of the company and reinforces its national presence.

GEQ also plans to inaugurate its institutional office in São Paulo in the first half of this year, an important move for the company and its business operations.

An important milestone to highlight at the beginning of 2024 is the formation of OTGN, a joint venture between GEQ, Oiltanking, and Copa Energia, responsible for the development, construction, and operation of a terminal for refrigerated storage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Porto de Suape, with an estimated investment of R$ 1.2 billion.
